WINDSOR CHIEF ACCOUNTS FOR CUP. LAUGHING LASS WINS. MARTON, January 1. The Marton Jockey Club's meeting opened today in fine breezy weather. The principal race, the Marton Cup, was won by an iutsider in Windsor 'Chief, from the favourite, Mishna. The favourite, Laughing Lass, won the sprint. There was a large holiday crowd, but the totalisator, in common with the majority of the holiday meetings, showed a decline. The figures for the day were £22,373, against £26,812 last New Year’s Day, a decrease of £4439. The track was in good order. There was. an accident in the running of the Marton Cup, the Lackham horse Alchemic, who has been attempting a racing comeback, breaking a leg and falling. Dainty Sue fell over him. H. Stewart, rider of Alchemic, received cuts on his head, and was sent to hospital, but is not thought to be seriously 1 injured. Tattersail, rider of Dainty Sue. received a shaking and a facial cut, but was not seriously hurt, though he did not ride again.
