VERY DARK FRUIT CAKE
THIS IS WORTH TRYING. Cream ilb. butter until very light, add 2oz. sifted flour and gradually add lib. brown sugar, weighed after sifting, and beat until very light. Sift Ijlb. plain flour with I level teaspoonful baking-soda, I 'teaspoonful salt, 1 teaspoonful cinnamon. . J teaspoonful ground cloves, J teaspoonful ground mace. Have prepared 11b. seeded raisins. 11b. sultanas, 11b. currants, Jib; almonds, shredded, Jib. chopped w'alnuts, Jib. cherries, lib. mixed peel, finely chopped. Jib. candied pineapple, end Jib. dates.' Beat 8 eggs well, add gradually to butter mixture, then add fruits covered with some of the flour mixture. Mix together J cup blackberry jelly or any other dark fruit jelly. 1 tablespoonful molasses, 1 tablespoonful glucose. 1 tablespoonful honey, and J cup rum. Add it alternately with flour mixture, mixing well after each addition. Bake in slow oven for about four hours in well-prepared caketins. This mixture makes 2 large cakes (approximately 51b. each).
