A London cable states that Patrick George Murray, of Nelson, a member of the Royal Corps of Signals, was accidentally killed on duty. Weekend guests at the Hotel Midland. Charge d'Affaires at the Canadian Legation at Washington. has been appointed High Commissioner to New Zealand. Dr Riddell was for 12 years Canadian representative at the League of Nations and was earlier Minister of Labour in Ontario. The death occurred at Crawley. Sussex, on December 1 of Mr John Henry Grant, formerly of the Bank of New Zealand. Mr Grant was a member of the bank's London staff for more than 40 years, and before he retired 10 years ago had been secretary to the London board of directors for 15 years. The Air Ministry announces New Year temporary promotions of the following New Zealanders, a cablegram states: —Group Captain to Air Commodore: F. IT. M. Maynard, of Wniuku; Wing Commander to Group Captain: H. B. Russell, of Hastings; Flight Lieutenants to Squadron Leaders: D. P. Lee. of Auckland, and T. G. LovellGregg of Wanganui.
