Matthews, of Masterton, is the guest of Mrs Richardson, Melbourne Road, Island Bay. Mr and Mrs D. B. Cameron, Glendhu, Hinakura are visiting the Marlborough Sounds. Miss G. Tooby, Essex Street, Masterton. is spending the New Year’s holiday in Wellington. Mr and Mrs E. M. Hodder and family. Second Street, Lansdowne, ’ are staying at Paraparaumu Beach. Mr and Mrs J. A. Stacey, Epsom; Auckland, who have been on a motor tour of the North Island, were visitors io Masterton yesterday en route to the north. Christmas Day was the 99th birthday of Mrs Duncan McFarlane, a former mayoress of Invercargill. Mrs McFarlane, who is in good health, thoroughly enjoyed her birthday. Mrs McFarlane came out to New Zealand from Scotland as a young woman. As mayoress of Invercargill, she did much work for patriotic causes during the last war, the organisation of sewing for the Beligians being one of her tasks.
Guests at the Pointon-Tildesley wedding which took place in Masterton on Thursday included Mrs F. Pointon, Misses Dulcie and Pamela Pointon (Wellington); Mr and Mrs Geoffrey Robinson (Johnsonville); Miss Albrechtsen (Eketahuna); Mr J. J. Bassett (Lower Hutt); Mr Tildesley, grandfather of the bride (Mangamahoe); Mr.J. Bassett (Lower Hutt); Mr and Mrs S. Newman (Wellington) and Mi’ Spencer Friend (Wanganui).
Married in Gladstone, Wairarapa, on Christmas Day, 1889, Mr and Mrs A. F. Stevenson, Gladstone Street, Woodville, celebrated the golden jubilee of their wedding at their home on Christmas Day. Both Mr and Mrs Stevenson are of Scottish decent, Mrs Stevenson (nee Jeannie Grant) being a daughter of one of the earliest Scottish pioneering families in the Wairarapa, her parents coming to New Zealand in 1852. Before their retirement to 'Woodville Mr Stevenson had been engaged in farming pursuits at Alfredton, Waikanae and Waitawa.
