BURGLARS SCARED OFF
BY SHOT FROM PEA RIFLE. INCIDENT AT GOLF CLUE PAVILION. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH. December 27. Three men who were attempting Io break into the Waitikiri Golf Club's pavilion on Saturday night were scared off by a shot from a pea-rifle when they were discovered by the caterer, who is also caretaker. They are believed to be the same men who broke into the Waimari Beach clubhouse the previous Friday and raided the lockers. The Waitikiri attempt was discovered late on Saturday night. After firing a shot into the air the caretaker saw the men make off, and rang up Mr A. R. Blank, the president. When he arrived, in the early hours of Sunday morning, one of the men, at any rate, was still in the vicinity. [ After locating him in the scrub.. Mr | Blank and the caretaker chased him I and finally lost him in the darkness. No damage was done, the men being discovered before they could break in, said Mr Blank.
