Mr and Mrs H. Warren Kelly, of Richmond, Nelson, are the guests of their daughter, Mrs G. Bilderbeck, Masterton.

The death occurred recently of Mrs Elizabeth Constance Carpenter, Beach Road, Plimmerton, and for a number of years resident in the Taihape district. She was born at Foxton .71 years ago, being the eldest daughter of the late Morgan Carkeek, one of the pioneer surveyors of the colony. Mrs Carpenter took a prominent part in all social and patriotic activities, was an indefatigable worker during the Great War, and during the. 1918 epidemic was one of the willing workers in Plimmerton, where she took charge of the Maori auxiliary hospital, performing useful service. She served a period on the vestry of the Anglican Church and as president of the local Plunket Society. She is survived by her husband, Mr M. M. Carpenter, five daughters and one son. On the occasion of her 100th birthday, Mrs Mary Dillon, Nixon Street, Hamilton East, received scores of gifts and hundreds of congratulatory messages. A telegram conveying greetings was received from His Majesty the King, and another from the-Mayor of Hamilton, Mr H. D. Caro, on .behalf of the citizens. Distinguished visitors to Mrs Dillon's home included the Roman Catholic Bishop of Auckland, Dr. Liston, who. accompanied by Monsigneurs Cahill and Ormond, made a special trip from Auckland. The birthday celebrations opened at 7 a.m., when Mrs Dillon attended Mass at her house. The celebrant was the Rev. Father M. J. Bleakley, Hamilton, and Mass was served by Mrs Dillon's grandson, Mr Desmond Dillon. There were four generations of the family present.
