BIBLE CLASS FOOTBALL
NORTH V. SOUTH ISLAND. MATCH AT MASTERTON YESTERDAY. An exciting Rugby football match was played on the Wairarapa College i grounds late yesterday afternoon, when teams representing the North and South Islands from the New Zealand Anglican Bible Class Union men’s camp tried conclusions. The North team was victorious by 13 points (3 tries, 2 of which were converted), to nil. The game was played at a fast pace on a very hard ground. The teams were piped out on to the field by Mr R. M. Goudrie, and after the exchange of fearsome hakas the struggle commenced. The side-lines were patrolled by enthusiastic barrackers, while the teams’ managers cycled around offering advice and encouragement, to their teams. Despite amusing interludes the game was a good exhibition of fast clean play. The North backs were decidedly superior, the forwards being fairly evenly matched. Tries were scored for the North team by J. Ngotoa (two), and E. Gray. The latter converted two tries. The teams were as follows: North Island: E. Gray, J. Staub. R. Green. D. Sheffield, C. Aikman, J. Ngotoa, C. McLaren, C. . Poole. B. Houchen, E. Cutler, A. Affleck, R. Pees, D. Hipworth, E. Roscoe, and S. Jellicoe. South Island: S. E. Wood, G. Brent, W. Ault, J. Couling, L. Spears, G. Berry, J. Webb, J. Teal, J. McFaul, J. Gee, W. Woodward, E. Titchener, B. Hall, G. Anderson, and P. Chapman.
