KOPUARANGA
SOLDIER FAREWELLED PRIVATE JAMES HEWITT. (“Times-Age” Special.) A large number of settlers and friends gathered in the Kopuaranga Hall on Wednesday evening, to bid farewell to Private James Hewitt, who will leave for overseas with the. first echelon. Mr Jack West supplied excellent dance music, and Messrs C. P. Jarrett and Max Clarke as M. sC. kept the dancing going with a swing. During the evening Mrs R. Miller gave two humourous recitations, which were much appreciated. After supper Mr C. C. Jackson, on behalf of the settlers, wished Private Hewitt God speed, and a safe return, and asked him to accept a small gift “in memory of his Kopuaranga friends.’’ Private Hewitt suitably replied, and was accorded musical honours. Dancing was then continued and the singing of “Auld Lang Syne” and the National Anthem brought an enjoyable evening to a close. Private C. Clarke, of Mauriceville, was also present.
