TAUPATA ASHORE
NEAR TE AWAITI WHALING STATION. ASSISTANCE BEING DESPATCHED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Anchor Company's 268-ton motor-ship Taupata is ashore near Te Awaiti whaling station. Tory Channel, Queen Charlotte Sound. She left Nelson for Lyttelton yesterday. Stress of weather forced her to put into Picton. Presumably she resumed her journey this morning, but ran aground at 9.20 o'clock. A plane from Nelson sighted her and reported tier position to the company’s Wellington agents, Messrs T. and W. Young, Ltd. They state that as far as is known the crew is in no danger, and assistance is being despatched. The master of the Taupata is Captain J. A. Hughan, the First Officer is R. F. Greenslade, and the Second. E. H. Willson. all residents of Wellington. The Taupata was built by G. T. Niccol, Auckland, in 1930. SHIP REFLOATED. PROCEEDING TO PICTON. WELLINGTON, This Day. The agents have received notice that the Taupata has floated off and is proceeding to Picton.
