FOR HOT DAYS
TWO GOOD DRINKS. Good drinks for hot days can be made from the following recipes:— Lemon and Raisin Cordial. —The ingredients are: 2 gallons boiling water, 1 packet seeded raisins, 3 whole lemons, cut fine in slices, and 21b. sugar. Put sugar, raisins and sliced lemons in a small barrel and pour the boiling water over. Let it stand 24 hours, strain and bottle off. It will be ready in one week. Lemon Syrup.—Two and a-quarter pounds of sugar, loz. tartaric acid, loz. Epsom salts. 4 large breakfast cups boiling water, the juice of six mediumsized lemons, and the grated rind of three (must be clean, smooth skins). Pour the boiling water over sugar, acid and salts, add the juice and finely grated rinds of the lemons. Mix well and bottle when cold. Use 1 tablespoon of the syrup to a tumbler of water.
