CARTERTON
CLAREVILLE BURGLARY POST OFFICE ENTERED. ("Times-Age” Special.) On Saturday evening burglars broke into the Clareville Post Office. An attempt was made to blow open the safe with gelignite, but the charge .caused the door to jam and it could not be opened. A sum of money in the safe was, therefore, not interferred with. Constable Robertson, of Carterton. and Detective-Sergeant Kane, of Masterton, were informed and have the matter in hand. It is not yet known, but it is believed, that some Christmas parcels are missing. About 12 months ago the same office was burgled, but on that occasion no attempt was made on the safe. BOWLING RINK FOR WELLINGTON. A rink of Carterton bowlers left yesterday to take part in the Wellington Centre's Christmas bowling tournament which will commence today. THROWN OFF LORRY CHILDRENS' EXPERIENCE. Mr H. Bridgewater was driving his motor lorry from High Street to his residence in Kent Street, the vehicle being occupied by himself and others, several children being seated on the rear of the motor, and when he turned from the main road into Kent Street the children were thrown off the vehicle to the roadway with the result that they received a severe shaking and bruises. A doctor was called and attended the sufferers. It was found that none of the children had suffered serious injury. Personal. Miss Goodin, of Hukanui. daughter of Mr J. Goodin, who is well known in Carterton, is an inmate of the Masterton Public Hospital, having undergone an operation for appendicitis. Her condition is as satisfactory as can be expected.
