EXPANDING RAPIDLY IN AUSTRALIA. MANUFACTURE & PURCHASE OF AIRCRAFT. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright. (Received This Day, 12.5 p.m.) MELBOURNE. This Day. Special war measures will cost Australia £27,194.000 for the year 1939-40. Expenditure on all Defence-services will be £56,555,000. The War Cabinet has confirmed plans for a rapid expansion of the construction in Australia of warplanes and training craft. Approval has been given for the purchase of a hundred more Wirraway planes and engines and' the laying in of stocks of raw materials for another hundred Wirraways, for the construction of ninety BristolBeaufort bombers, the purchase of 350 Tiger Moths airframes and 250 Gipsy engines and fifty Moth Minor planes in Australia and overseas.
