400LB. SKIS

FOR ADMIRAL BYRD'S POLAR PLANES. TORONTO. Four sets of aeroplane skis, to be used by Admiral Richard Byrd’s forthcoming expedition to the Antarctic were manufactured by a firm of ski manufacturers at Sioux Lookout in the northern part of the Province of Ontario, Canada. A Canadian Press despatch states that three of the sets of skis weigh 400 pounds each. They are 14 feet long and three feet wide and will be used on the expedition’s larger planes which are capable of carrying 20,000 pounds gross. The fourth set is smaller and will be used by the smaller scouting plane which will accompany Admiral Byrd’s Antarctic snowcruiser on its trips away from the main base of the party.
