POISED FOR ATTACK

GERMANS ON THE WESTERN FRONT MOVE EXPECTED VERY SHORTLY. ACCORDING TO FRENCH AUTHORITY. LONDON, December 21. A War Office spokesman in Paris said: “Germans are poised for an attack on the Belgian, Dutch and Luxemburg frontiers, as in last November, t-orces will probably move within 48 hours, receiving marching orders.” The spokesman added: “Chances of success are more remote. It is a case of forewarned is forearmed.” An official statement in Brussels says that fighters and anti-aircraft units drove off German planes at various 'points. One German opened fire as he fled northward. The Belgian Government protested to Germany. The German official news agency in Berlin reports increased patrol activity on the Western Front, because of the spontaneous desire of officers and soldiers to locate the British positions, for which a particularly warm welcome is being prepared.
