the meeting. Most of Bronwen’s successes have been achieved at Ellerslie and this season she has already won three sprint events on the course. Although the Railway Handicap will be 'a severe test, she is a very honest mare who never runs a bad race, and in her present form should be capable of a solid effort. She has been working really well and promises to strip one of the fittest horses in the field. Palustre is on the minimum and would have prospects if in the same form as at the last Christmas meeting. Unfortunately, she again encountered a soft track at Te Awamutu, but ran a creditable race among the sprinters. The shower which fell just prior to her race would be sufficient io jeopardise her chances, as she must have a very firm track to be seen at her best. No doubt post positions may have a big influence in the betting in the Railway Handicap, but, if Orelio and Bronwen draw well, they can be depended on to make bold showings. ' Flood Tide in Good Heart. The latest work of Flood Tide has been accomplished in improved style, and the racing he has had at Ellerslie and Te Awamutu has brought him on nicely for his more important engagement in the Auckland Cup. Il is doubtful if he has ever been better than at present, and it should not be for lack of condition if he fails to run prominently. A Bright Prospect, Proud Fox achieved distinction when he won the Hack Cup at Te Awamutu. as he had to go very fast early from the extreme outside at the barrier. The solid manner in which he finished on after his early effort to secure a position showed him to be a three-year-old above the average, and he appears to be a bright prospect for the Queen's Plate at Auckland, in which he will be opposed by good southern hacks. However, he is good, and should be a strong opponent for the best. Buccaneer is also to compete in the Queen’s Plate, but, although improving a little with each race, has yet to reach the form expected of him. Buccaneer would need to reveal marked improvement on past form to succeed.

Clarion Call Fit. Looking a picture, and more like a Cun candidate than a hurdler. Clarion Call has worked very freely on the tan at Ellerslie this week. One of the most brilliant jumpers in recent years. Clarion Call was successful in his last start at Trentham in October, when he easily won the Rona Hurdles, carrying 12.1. A proved weight-carrier, the Hunting Song gelding is likely to be entrusted with a good deal of confidence in his engagements at Ellerslie. Beaupartir Well Forward. Beaupartir, whose non-appearance among the acceptors for the Auckland Cup was a disappointment, looks in forward condition, and the race he had recently at Woodville has evidently done him a lot of good. Beaupartir is not a big horse, but what he lacks in height, he makes up in solidness. His mission at the meeting is to be the weight-for-age events, the King’s Plate and the Clifford Plate, writes •‘Bobrikoff,” and he is likely to provide strong opposition for the three-year-olds.
