Bracket: The Ring and Red Shoes. Will be Hard to Beat. Siegmund won the St. Andrew's Handicap at Feilding. with 8.9. and was third at Woodville in the Bolton Handicap with 9.0. In that race he was last in the early stages but made up ground and finished on strongly. The extra two furlongs in the Manawatu Cup should suit him and with a drop in weights he will be a hard horse to beat. Should be Well in the Picture. Friesland, who brought off a surprise at Woodville, will carry 8.7 in the Manawatu Cup. He will now meet Siegmund on lOlbs. worse terms. He was improved by his recent race and as he has trained well since he should be well in the picture.

Russian Ballet Should go Well. A good field of printers is engaged in the Fitzherbert Handicap at Awapuni, in which Russian Ballet holds pride and place. She won the Colyton Handicap at Feilding. and was started in the Gothard Handicap at Woodville, over a mile and a distance. She acted as pacemaker throughout to lail over the concluding stages.
