AN OPEN BREAK

MR J. A. LEE REMOVED FROM OFFICE ■— 1 AS UNDER-SECRETARY OF FINANCE. EXPLANATION BY MR NASH. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON. This Day. The appointment of Mr J. A. Lee, Labour I\I.P. for Grey Lynn, as a Parliamentary Under-Seeretary, is revoked by a notice published in a supplementary “Gazette” issued last night. The formal notice reads as follows: — “His Excellency the Governor-Gen-eral has been pleased in terms of the Civil List Amendment Act, 1936, to revoke the appointment of John Alexander Lee. Esquire, of Auckland, a member of the House of Representatives, as Parliamentary Under-Secre-tary in relation to the office of the Minister of Finance.” The notice, which is elated yesterday, is signed by the Minister of Finance, Mr Nash. After the issue of the notice revoking Mr Lee's appointment, a statement was made by Mr Nash. He said it was associated with Mr Lee’s writings, which conveyed impressions incompatible with the mutual trust and loyalty essential between those who work in close co-operation. The Government had, therefore, unanimously asked his Excellency to revoke the appointment.

“I can only regret,” added Mr Nash, “the circumstances which have made this action necessary.”
