CHRISTMAS BONUS
PAYMENT TO UNEMPLOYED. STATEMENT BY FINANCE MINISTER. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Minister of Finance (Mr Nash) announced today that the Government had decided to pay a Christmas bonus to persons in receipt of unemployment benefit from the Social Security fund. The bonus is 10s for persons under 20 without dependants, £1 for single persons aged 20 and over, and £2 for married beneficiaries. The bonus will be paid to all persons who received unemployment benefit in the week ending December 16, 1939, and who have received the benefit for at least four weeks in the six weeks ending on that date. The payment will be made on January 3. 4or 5. An unemployment benefit certificate (pink card) must be produced at the time of payment.
