TOURIST TRAFFIC

MANY VISITORS TO CANADA. I PACIFIC COAST ATTRACTIONS. ! OTTAWA, The tourist traffic to Canada during the summer months shows an increase in the number of richer visitors who are able and prepared to stay in the country from one to six months. Unsettled conditions in Europe are thought to have been responsible for diverting many United States tourists of this type from ocean voyages to the Dominion. In addition more and more visitors from foreign lands are coming to Canada for their vacations as is indicated by returns for the month of August when representatives from 23 countries other than the United States entered Canada by automobile, while many from other countries came direct by boat to Canadian ports. Visitors to Canada in the month of August, as indicated by the registry of their automobiles, included the Hawaiian Islands. Panama, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Cuba, Newfoundland, Puerto Rico, France, the British West Indies, Alaska, Jamaica, Haiti, Venezuela, British Honduras, Argentina, Colombia, Guatemala. Belgium. and others.

Steps are being taken to further increase the tourist traffic within Canada. The province of British Columbia is sponsoring a campaign under the slogan of “The Riviera of Canada” to attract tourists from other parts of the Dominion to enjoy the pleasures of the Pacific coast province. In Eastern Canada the winter sports attractions of the Laurentian mountains and in the Mid-West, the wonders of the Canadian Rockies for skiing, are being prominently advertised both at home and abroad.
