Amended plans for a new Central Fire Station for Auckland, which will involve a saving of nearly £20,000. were adopted by the Auckland Fire Board yesterday. It was decided to apply to the Local Government Loans Board for permission to raise £140.000 to cover the cost of the new scheme. The area ou which the new buildings will stand is situated at the corner of Pitt Street and Grey Avenue. It was acquired two years ago at a cost of £25,000. and £23.01)0 of this amount stiil owing is included in the loan for which sanction is sought. '1 he principal alterations in the original plan relate to living accommodation. The actual building cost will be reduced from £127.740 to an estimated £lOB.793, The buildings will provide accommodation for 62 men. There will be 21 houses and eight flats for married men and 33 cubicles to)’ single men
