The Tuscaloosa arrived with 579 Columbus survivors, who were taken to Ellis Island. The immigration authorities ruled that they were distressed seamen and entitled to enter the United States legally without visas, but must reship to a foreign country within sixty days. The Arauca has. been attached by the Imperial Sugar Company, of Galveston, Texas, in u 38.000 dollar court' action, which will prevent her sailing until a bond has been posted, even if the skipper is willing to risk the waiting British destroyer. Treasury officials said a partial investigation had disclosed no reason to warrant the ship’s detention.
