HAWKE’S BAY REGIMENT

FIELD DAY AT TE ORE ORE. USEFUL WORK CARRIED OUT. A field day was held during the weekend at the To Ore Ore rifle range by members of C Company, Hawke’s Bay Regiment (Lewis gunners).. Interesting and useful work was carried out under the capable supervision ol Sergeants A. W. Thompson and J. Robinson. The main items were hand bombing and bayonet fighting. The anti-aircraft work, section post 'and trench digging and sections in attack were particularly well done. A very fine performance was put up by the two sections who took part in the manoeuvres in the afternoon. Considerable skill was shown in taking cover in attack. Corporals A. Harrington and R. Easthope were the section commanders. The work of digging trenches in the hot weather experienced over the weekend was a particularly trying task. Corporal C. Morris, of the Transport section was in charge of the transport lorry. The billy was boiled and lunch was partaken of on the field. The mqn received valuable training under capable instructors, the weekend manoeuvres being a pleasant but efficient method of training for the main task yet to come. -
