STOCK MARKET
ADDINGTON SALE. RECOVERY IN VALUES. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, December 19. Because of the Christmas demand, there was a recovery in values in several sections of stock at the double market in Addington today. The better classes improved substantially in price, though fat cattle slipped on the weaker rates of last week. The spring lamb yarding totalled 3000, as compared with the 1000 of last week. A strong demand resulted for light, prime sorts for the Christmas trade, these making at the least Bld a lb. The sale firmed as it progressed. Works buyers operated freely at schedule rates. The entry of fat sheep was exceptionally small for a double market, little more than 4000 head being offered. Prices advanced, specially for good wethers, which were better by 2s a head. Light wethers were also better. and both prime and lightweight ewes advanced by Is to Is 6d. Extra prime heav ywethers made to 35s 6d, prime 28s 6d to 31s; prime heavy ewes, 27s to 345, medium to 22s 6d, and light to 14s. The fat cattle entry was also smaller, but included' a big proportion of wellfinished sorts. Good, prime steers were 20s a head lower, with secondary showing a smaller decline. Extra prime heavy wethers made to 35s 6d. prime £l6 to £l7 ss, medium to £l5 10s, and light to £9 10s; prime heifers to £l2 10s, light to £8 ss. prime cows £lO to £l2 15s, light to £7 ss. Entries in the fat pig section were small for a double market, and prices advanced by 3s to 4s a head for good cutting sorts. Choppers were in short supply, and values were again better by about 10s a head. Choppers made £3 Is 6d to £6 11s; medium porkers, £2 2s 6d to £2 9s 6d. heavy £2 Ils 6d to £2 17s 6d; light baconers, to £3 6s 6d, medium to £3 15s 6a. and heavy to £4 9s 6d.
