FIRST ECHELON
FAREWELL ARRANGEMENTS DINNER AND GATHERING AT OPERA HOUSE. JOINT BOROUGH AND COUNTY ACTION. Members of the First Echelon of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force who enlisted at the Masterton Defence Office are to be accorded a farewell dinner at the Midland Hotel. Masterton, by the Masterton Borough and Masterton Country Councils on Thursday. at 6 p.m.. followed by a civic farewell at the Opera House at 8 p.m. Although many inquiries have been made it has not been possible to secure a list of the men who are at present on final leave in the district, and the Town Clerk. Mr G. T. O'Hara Smith, and the County Clerk, Mr J. C. D. Mackley, request all troops who intend to attend the dinner to hand in their names as soon as possible, and not later than 4.30 p.m. on Wednesday, so that catering arrangements may be completed. The public is cordially invited by the mayor, Mr T. Jordan, to attend the civic farewell at the Opera House.
