WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

MEETING AT TE ORE ORE. BANNER COMPETITION. (“Times-Age’’ Special.) At the monthly meeting of the Te Ore Ore Women’s Institute there was a good attendance. Apologies for absence were received from Mrs McKenzie and Mrs Simpson. The demonstrator, Mrs J. Shaw, visitors, and members were welcomed by the president. The motto for the month. “People who help us most are those that encourage us most,” was given by Mrs Percy. Mrs J. Shaw gave an intensely interesting demonstration of icing a cake, which had been made by the pupils of the Te Ore Ore School as their Christmas cake. Mrs G. Dagg displayed several beautiful samples of poker work which greatly interested members. The Roll Call. "An Amusing Story," was not as ably responded to as usual, several members having to pay a fine. Supper was served by the hostesses, Mrs Linton, Mrs Bell and Mrs Albert.* A game conducted by Miss Bliss was won by Mrs Percy. Mrs Dring was second and Mrs McLauchlan was third. Mrs N. Percy and Miss Morriss judged the flower competition which resulted as follows:—Mrs Fouhy (a beautiful Christmas lily) 1. Mrs Dring 2. Mrs Albert 3. The competition for the best design for a banner for the Te Ore Ore Institute was judged by popular vote. Mrs Nini proved an easy winner. Miss Bliss was second. On the motion of the president a hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mrs Shaw for her helpful and seasonal demonstration. A vote of thanks was passed to Mrs McDonald for baking the cake. Mrs Fouhy thanked members for their keen interest and wished them a happy Christmas. Mrs Dagg proposed a vote of thanks to Mrs Fouhy for her work and interest in the Institute. This was carried by acclamation and the season's greetings were extended to her. The meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem.
