CHURCH SERVICES
The services at the Salvation Army Hall tomorrow will be conducted by Major and Mrs Mahaffie. At the morning service Lieutenant Milne will be the speaker, and in the evening Major Mahaffie will take for his subject “Jesus as a Wonderful Saviour.” All are heartily invited to the Army's services. Special Christmas music will be a feature in most churches at tomorrow’s services, and at Knox Church an interesting selection of carols will be rendered by the choir. The preacher will be the minister of the church, the Rev. J. Davie, who extends a cordial welcome to visitors. The music, some of which is traditional and some modern, is new to Masterton, and will undoubtedly help to make the service a most enjoyable one. The beautiful Christmas .music of “The Messiah” will be featured at the Methodist Church service on Sunday evening, when the major portion of this oratorio will be presented by an augmented choir under the baton of Mr S. H. Ralph. The soloists for the occasion are Miss D. Jamieson, Mrs A. Graham, Mrs H. Speight, Miss O’Donnell, Messrs D. Irwin and F. Clarke. The organist will be Miss C. Donald, L.R.S.M. The Rev. F. J. Parker will conduct the services both morning and evening. At /the Kuripuni Methodist Church tomorrow the morning service will be in charge of the Young Men’s Bible Class Mission Band, and in the evening the usual car service will be available to the town church. The Mount Bruce service.at 2 p.m. will be conducted by the Rev. F. J. Parker. The Masterton . Christian Youth Council has organised a Christmas service to be held at the Park at 7 a.m tomorrow. The Salvation Army Band will lead the singing of Christmas hymns, and a short address will be given. If the weather is unfavourable the service will be held in St. Matthew's Hall.
Christmas carol services will be held in the Lansdowne Presbyterian Church tomorrow, when the preacher will be the Rev. David McNeur. Special Christmas anthems will be rendered by the choir, under the leadership of Mrs H. M. Morton. At Wangaehu. a service will be held at 2.30 p.m.
The Rev. T. V. Pearson will be the preacher at St. Matthew's tomorrow morning. At 7 p.m. there will be e Christmas musical service. Prize-giving services will be held at 9.30 a.m. at Lansdowne, 11 a.m. at Kuripuni, 2.30 p.m. at St. Matthew's, and at 4 p.m. at Upper Plain. All other services will be as usual. The order of the musical service by St. Matthew's Choir at St. Matthew’s Church on Sunday is as follows:—Anthem. "Sing and Rejoice" (Barnby): solo, "Nazareth” (Gounod), by Mr Archer Hale; anthem, "And the Glory of the Lord" (Handel); trio. "'Xmas Blessing" (Roberton), by Mrs Burke. Miss Grace Gaudin, and Miss Rose Robinson; anthem, "Rejoice Greatly” (Simper), soloist, Miss Gaudin; solo, "I Know My Redeemer Liveth" (Handel), by Miss Edith Ralph; anthems, “His Name Shall Endure" (Belcher), and "O Praise God in His Holiness" (Vine Hall). The choir will be under the direction of Mi Wm. C. Mann, with Mr A. Miller Hope at the organ.
