FALL FROM GRADER
DRIVER DIES FROM INJURIES. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Severe injuries to his head, face and body, from which he died soon after being admited to hospital, were received by Mr L. Simmonds, a married man, residing at 30 Roy Street, Newtown. when he fell from a grader on the Hutt Road late yesterday afternoon. The accident occurred between Ngahauranga and Petone, at a point where the Public Works Department has considerable equipment used in the reconstruction of the road. Mr Simmonds, who was a fitter employed by the department. was driving the grader, and engaged in the task of brushing loose metal off the road. It is not known how he came to fall from the grader, but as he did so his clothing was caught in some part of the moving machinery. He was dragged along the road for a short distance, and it is believed that the injuries he received were inflicted by one of the wheels supporting the heavy vehicle' His clothing was ripped and torn.
Mr Simmonds was taken to the Wellington Public Hospital by the Free Ambulance. He died shortly after 5 p.m.
