"PRIVATE LIVES”
OPERA HOUSE SATURDAY. The reward —or, at all events, the result —of popularity in a play is picturisation, and it goes without saying that this is a fate that has' befallen “Private Lives.” Probably a number of Masterton residents have seen and enjoyed the picture, and this is certain to draw them to see an actual presentation of the play. It is certainly a privilege, whether the picture has been seen or not, to have the opportunity of witnessing the play performed by a flesh-and-blood cast. When that cast is one of which exacting critics have stated that their performance was “of outstanding merit and charm,” it is due to one’s sense of enjoyment to see that the opportunity is not missed. Apart from the merits of the play and its performers, the character of the play makes it a particularly happy choice for performance at such a time as the present. Its spontaneous gaiety will prove an efficient antidote to the atmosphere brought about by the war. The Opera House should be filled to overflowing for the performance of the Thespians on Saturday evening. And the charges for admission to this flesh-and-blood performance are on a par with those for the pictures.
