REGENT THEATRE
“JEZEBEL.” The final screening of the thrilling j romance, “Jezebel,” with Bette Davis S in the role which won her the coveted | Academy Award, will take place this 5 evening. “FOUR JUST MEN.” It is very seldom that a picture combines so many aspects of interest and so many unusual angles of appeal, as does the national and international drama, “The Four Just Men,” which will come to the Regent Theatre on Saturday. Because of this, it is one of those rare productions which entertain, and thrill, at the actual time of screening, and which live in the memory long i afterwards. On analysis it will be found that the reason for this enduring value is that the drama has the unique quality of revealing deeper meanings and wider aspects of appeal the more the mind ponders upon it. This means that the film has an actuality, a vitality, not at first easy to explain, but unmistakable in its influence. In brief, "The Four Just Men” is a highly intriguing piece of entertainment. One powerful reason for its deep appeal is that it deals so vividly with what is occurring, in greater or less degree, all over the world.. It is instinct with implied fact, although it is obviously not a statement of fact. Every day in one or other centre of international intrigue, incidents are occurring such as those which go to make the pulsing excitement of "The Four Just Men.” But because such incidents are actual aspects of life in this troubled world, the film based on them, weaving them into a story full of action, emotion, and excitement, creates in the mind an effect so definite that the beholder leaves! with a sense of having been behind, the scenes of diplomatic and secret service circles. In popular entertainment terms, "The Four Just Men" is a thriller, but behind the thrills there is a sincere purpose, a quality of idealism, of patriotism, which converts the thrilling entertainment into subject matter for thought. Allied with this convincing quality is the fact thaV"The Four Just Men,” although based on events which could not occur in the sequence or in the exact manner betrayed. is an intrinsic revelation of the diabolic activities which are contributing so much to the world unrest of our times. Brilliant performances are given by the entire cast which contains some of the greatest names the stage has known.
A particularly outstanding supporting programme full details of which are given in our advertising columns, will worthily round oil a truly superb entertainment. Plans are at Nimmo’s and the Theatre, and it is important to note I hat no reserve fee is charged at the Regent.
