THE WEST FRONT
GERMANS RAID FRENCH OUTPOST SOME PRISONERS TAKEN. LINE QUICKLY RE-ESTABLISHED. LONDON, December 13. This evening’s French communique states: "In the course of a series of encounters which took place yesterday to the west of the Saar one of our small outposts was captured by the enemy, who made some 10 prisoners. Our line was quickly reestablished as announced in the evening communique of yesterday. Today' was quiet on the front as a whole." The official German news agency says that the German troops have not yet met the British, and adds that French outposts south-east of Saarbrucken have recently' been annoying the German advance outposts and therefore patrols were sent out to put them out of commission. The patrols, under heavy fire, killed five Frenchmen, and took 17 prisoners, including an officer, and returned without loss.
