COSY THEATRE
“OLD BARN DANCE.” ‘•The Old Barn Dance,” starring Gene Autry,- which will open tonight at the Cosy Theatre, is a musical western with all the ingredients of high class entertainment. A logical story, based on the efforts of Autry and his crony, "Frog,” (■■Smiley" Burnette) to sell horses to farmers at various rodeos through the westerfi United States, gives these two excellent actors an opportunity to display their talents in a forceful, amusing way. Autry is outstanding in this picture, but the characterisation of "Frog” runs him a close second. Helen Valkis as Sally is excellent. "The Old Barn Dance” is top-notch amusement from start to finish. Victor McLaglen, winner of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences award in 1935 for his performance in "The Informer,” is starred in Universal’s “Ex-Champ,” the associate feature. McLaglen will be seen in the role of an ex-champion boxer, who has reared a worthless son. The boy is a snob who disdains the home of his father and who is ashamed to be known as the son of a broken-down fighter. Tom Brown will be seen in the principal featured role, with a cast which includes Nan Grey, Constance Moore, Donald Briggs, William Frawley, Marc Lawrence, Samuel S. Hinds and-Kid Chissell.
