PRIZES PRESENTED

' WEST SCHOOL BREAKUP CEREMONY gathering at college YESTERDAY. CONCERT THIS MORNING. The annual prize giving and breakup ceremony of the Masterton West School was held at the Wairarapa College yesterday afternoon, when Mr F. Shearer, chairman of the West School Committee presented the awards won by the children during the year, before the assembled pupils. The headmaster. Mr J. P. Farrell expressed appreciation of the splendid assistance he had received from the Principal, Mr G. G. Hancox, and the staff of Wairarapa College, who had made conditions so pleasant during their stay, for the pupils and staff. Prizes were presented as follows: — Dux of the school: David Baird; run-ner-up, June Cooper. Home garden competition: Boys, William Grant; girls, Cynthia Kyngdon and Audrey Grig. Seventeen children were presented with the Wellington Education Board’s certificate of merit, and 16 pupils received prizes and diplomas won at the Carterton Centennial Show. A number of pupils were presented with their Navy League certificates. This morning the College students were entertained at a delightful programme presented in the College Assembly hall by the West School pupils.
