PLUNKET SOCIETY

MEETING OF MEMBERS YESTERDAY. HOUSE-TO-HOUSE CANVAS IN FEBRUARY. The monthly meeting of the Masterton branch of the Plunket Society was held in the Plunket rooms yesterday afternoon. There were present Mesdames J. Caselberg (in the chair), J. D. O'Connor, W. A. Michael, S. L. P. Free, H. Morrison (Tinui sub-branch), R. C. Drummond, C. A. Carmine, A. F. Stewart, P. Nathan. Sortain Smith, J. V. Gordon, J. James, H. H. Daniell, E. G. Eton, R. Miller (Mauriceville subbranch), E. G. Norman, A. H. Falloon, J. M. Coradine and T. F. Watson. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames N. Irwin, R. F. Beetham, T. Jordan, and C. T. Richardson. The president made feeling reference to the loss sustained by the Society in the death of Mrs W. J. Martin, of Martinborough, recently. A vote of sympathy was passed with the late Mrs Martin’s relatives. An official invitation to attend the. opening of the Truby King Harris Hospital, in Dunedin, was received. It was agreed that five dozen copies of the recently printed booklet containing a short history of the origin and development of the Plunket Society be purchased. It was decided to forward to the Dominion Secretary the sum. of money collected by the branch for the Truby King Memorial Fund. The annual house to house appeal would be made in February. Accounts amounting to £73 5s Id were passed for payment. Votes of thanks were passed to the following for infants’ garments:—Mesdames Coom, White, Misses Pearse and Logan, and the pupils of St. Matthew’s Collegiate School. The district nurses report was as follows: —Visit to Masterton rooms: Adults 426, babies 395, pre-school 65, telephone 139, total 1,025. Visits to homes: New cases 61, old cases 212. total 273. Pre-school children (seen in homes) 25. New cases for the month, [ town, 21. Babies on books 393. Preschool children on books 244. Other new cases 23. The%ut-station reports were: Tinui sub-branch, Taueru, Blairlogie, Langdale, Whareama, Tinui and Riversdale, 3 visits each. Homewood, 2 visits. Visits to homes, 24. Pre-school children visited in homes, 4. Mauriceville sub-branch, Kopuaranga, Mauriceville West, Hastwells, luharua Valley, 2 visits each, Mauriceville East, 1. New cases 2. Visits to new cases 4, old cases 28. total 32. Pre-school, visited in homes. 8. Pre-natal section 4, total cases 12. It was decided that no further committee meetings be held until February.

Roach, Coutts, H. Bunny, C. O. Cooper, C. Pickering, J. J. Kennedy, Stears, W. E. Webber, 5s each, proceeds of loan of marmalade cutter (per Mrs H. P. Harrison) 14s.

CARTERTON BRANCH MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the monthly meeting of the Carterton branch of the Plunket Society there were present: Mesdames Wells, Candy, Armstrong, Callender, Dyer, Steel, Udy and Trapp. An apology for absence was received from Mrs V. L. Robinson. Before commencing the meeting members stood in silence as a mark of respect to the memory of Mrs W. J. Martin, president of the Martinborough branch. The nurse’s report for November was as follows: —New cases, 10 (antenatal advice 2, babies breastfed 7, babies artificially fed 1; visits to homes, new cases, 18; old cases, 96; visits to rooms, adults, 92; babies, 74; children. 21. The general health and progress of the babies was satisfactory. Accounts amounting to £33 6s 3d were passed for payment.
