wairarapa board MEETING AT CARTERTON TODAY. INCREASE IN REVENUE. (“Times-Age" Special.) The monthly meeting of the Wairarapa Electric Power Board was held in the board rooms. Carterton. this ; morning. The Secretary-Manager, Mr Geo. Brown, stated that the revenue for November again disclosed a satisfactory position and showed a considerable increase compared with the 'corresponding month last year, and also a gain on the estimate. The position was as follows: —Estimate for November 1939, E 4.688; actual revenue for November 1939, £5,018. Gain on last year, £670. gain on estimate. £330. For ihe first eight months of the year the position wtis as fallows: —Net revenue, April-November 1938, £38,082; estimated 1939, £40,381; actual revenue for 1939, £42.707. Gain on last year. £4,625; gain on estimate, £2.326. The monthly summaries showed a substantial increase in all departments. There was an increase of 1.000,792 units sold as compared with the corresponding period last year. An increase of £670 was shown in the net revenue. The turnover in the trading department had been well maintained. The position for the first eight months of the year was as follows: Installations, showrooms, repairs. April-November. 1939. £17,035; April-November, 1938. £16,960. During the month 116 permits were issued for new jobs and additions. Eighteen new consumers were connected to the system during the month. The comparative table for the period April-Novem-ber showed general increases all round. The increase in revenue was more than sufficient to cover the increase in expenditure. The estimated profit, of £2395 should be increased to at least £3OOO. The number of ranges installed easily constituted a record, and the new load connected up should provide for the increase in revenue which would be required next year to meet increased costs. The capital expenditure for the first eight months of the year amounted to £10,453, which was provided for from old and new construction loans and revenue. In conclusion Mr Brown recommended that the next meeting of the board be held on February 15, 1940. The Chief Engineer. Mr H. B. Keenan, submitted his report setting cut the engineering activities of ihe board for the month. In the northern area 25 services were erected -during the month. During the month all E.11.P. lines had been patrolled and general maintenance work undertaken where necessary. All lines were in a satisfactory condition. There were no major interruptions to the supply during the month. A minor one at Wangaehu and one at Opaki sections were attended to immediately. In the central area 10 service connections were carried out during the month. There were no major power interruptions in this area. In the southern area 3 service connections were erected. The monthly load statistics showed a substantial increase. The Public Works Department intended to test the new Wellington-Masterton line on December 17. During the month the inspection department had carried out a total of 249 inspections. There were present Messrs A. Camp-bell-Pearce (chairman). H. P. Hugo, C. R. Holmes. F. C. Daniell. S. Dalgleish. M. B. Tait, and J. W. Colquhoun. Apologies for absence were received frotn Messrs W. A. Tate, and W. H. Booth. Accounts amounting to £12.164 19s lid were passed for payment. The Public Works Department forwarded a copy of the proclamation altering the boundaries of the Board’s district to include the Taueru, Tinui. and Castlepoint districts. The Electricity Department Controller wrote authorising the erection of the line on the Masterton-Carterton Highway.
