MAGISTRATE’S COURT
BUSINESS AT MASTERTON SITTING. MOTORING & OTHER OFFENCES. The fortnightly sitting of the Masterton Magistrate’s Court was held this morning before Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M. On a charge of drunkenness,-Charles Birt was fined 10s. James Bruce Rutherford and Albert Duncan, on charges of riding a bicycle at night without a light, were each fined 15s and costs. Trevor Charles Gordon Knudsen was charged with being the driver of a motor-car in Queen Street he did use ihe warning device otherwise than as a reasonable traffic warning. He was also charged with not having two headlights displayed thereon when driving the car at night. Defendant was fined 10s and costs on each charge. The owner of the car, Philip Wilkinson, was, fined £1 and Ils costs for not carrying a warrant of fitness in respect to the car. On a charge of not carrying a warrant of fitness in respect to his motor car. Henry Brookhouse Wylde was fined 10s and 10s costs.
A charge of failing to give way to traffic approaching on the right at the intersection of Pownall and Rcnall streets on November 30 was preferred against Maida Frances Lawson. Defendant was also charged with not carrying a warrant of fitness. On the first charge defendant was fined £2 and 10s costs and on the second' charge 10s and costs 10s. The Borough Traffic Inspector, Mr John McGregor, proceeded against Dick Barrett for having no driver’s licence for his motor-cycle and also for failing to carry a warrant of fitness. Defendant had a warrant but was not carrying it at the time of the accident. On the first charge he was fined 30s and 10s costs and on the second charge was ordered to pay costs 10s. Bert G. Dean. Rupert Gerrand, William Arthur Luney and M. F. Siemonek were charged by Mr McGregor with not carrying warrants of fitness in respect to their motor-cars (in the case of Gerrand a motor cycle). Luney was also charged with having no driver's licence. Dean, Gerrand and Siemonek wore each lined 10s and costs. Luney was fined £1 and costs on each charge. The District Traffic Inspector, Mr W. G. Milne, proceeded against Lloyd Robert Banks on a charge of operating a car at Solway on November fi with a mirror not in accordance with the regulations. Defendant was fined 10s and costs 10s. Harold Kenneth McKenzie was lined £2 and costs 22s fid for allowing stock to wander.
On a similar charge in respect to a pony. Thomas Patrick O'Neill, who pleaded not guilty, was fined Ills and costs 22s fid. Mr R. R. Burridge appeared for defendant.
