FEATHERSTON
COMIC OPERETTA PRESENTED BY PRIMARY PUPILS ("Times-Age" Special.) There was a very good attendance at the Town Hall last night when the comic operetta “Princess Ju Ju" was presented by the primary school 'children. The bright scenes, gay kimonas and catchy songs provided a very enjoyable entertainment. The performance reflected great credit on Miss Wharton and her assistants. The characters were taken as follows: —Princess Ju Ju, D. Raper; Maidens Attendant on Princess, S. Jeffrey, P. Bambry. N. Tocker, W. Tidswell, N. Ward. A. Higginson; Luna (Goddess of Night). N. Ward; The Emperor Hokipokitippi--toptop, D. Johnson; Ching Ching (his adviser), T. Buck; Prince Shee Ma Guin ,K. Lang; Prince Fu Shu. C. Benton; Prince Go Bank. M. Hunter (disguised as minstrels); Abud Hiram (p magician), G. Sharp; The Lord High Executioner, P. Cherry; Messenger, G. Warren; Soldiers, K. Feast, J. Luttrel, D. Sim, G. Harkness; Sword Bearer, T. Cassidy; Court Dancers, P. Bambry, J. Card, R. Fellingham, E. Davis, P. Peene, A. Marshall. D. Scott. J. Davis; Fairies, M. Moriarity, B. Boston, M. Hawke, J. Kilsby, D. Varnham, H. MeKain, A. Turner, B. Turner, H. Cole, M. McGaughey. B. Donald, S. Benton. C. Kelly, M. Newnham. The accompanist was Miss Joan Hunter. Mips Wharton and Miss Hunter were presented with bouquets. DENTAL CLINIC MEETING OF COMMITTEE. At a meeting of the Featherston District Dental Clinic Committee there were present the Rev R. S. Keenan (chairman), Messrs C. C. Kenward (secretary), J. W. Holland, S. Murphy, and F. Hayes (headmaster). Apologies for absence were received from Mr P. Wilton (South Featherston), K. H. Allen (’Featherston Home and School Association), Mrs Arch Clark (South Featherston Home and School Association), and Mr F. Jansen. The treasurer, Mr Hayes, reported • credit balance of £6 18s lid. The Clinic is now free of all debt, and has every prospect of maintaining a highly satisfactory financial position. Mr A. D. Price (Senior Dental Officer) forwarded a circular letter pointing out that the New Zealand Educational Institute recently made representations to the Minister that children who had no earlier opportunity of attending a school Dental Clinic should be permitted to do so when transferred to a school where a Dental Clinic is established. Mr Price asked that this should be considered by the Featherston committee and that he be advised at the earliest possible date of its opinion on the matter.—lt was decided to recommend that the suggestion be put into operation.
SCHOOL COMMITTEE MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Feath-» erston School Committee was attended by Messrs J. W. Holland (chairman), C. C. Kenward (secretary), S. Murphy, F. A. O'Neale, W. Jeffrey, C. Buck. Mr Frank Jansen was also present. He is co-opted member from Waiorongamai. A credit balance of £6B was reported. Accounts totalling £3O 8s lid were passed for payment. In respect to the annual school picnic, the chairman and secretary were appointed to wait on the president of the Home and School Association (Miss Card) to arrange joint action. ..As tenders for the new school closed some time back, it was decided to ask the member for the district (Mr Ben Roberts) to ascertain why a tender had not yet been accepted. The chairman extended to the teachers and children, through the headmaster (Mr Hayes) the committee's best wishes for Christmas and the vacation. Mr Hayes thanked the committee for the kind wishes. Euchre Party & Dance. There was a good attendance at the euchre party and dance held in the Pahautea Hall. The card winners were: Ladies, Mrs Warrington 1. Mrs Keys 2; men, Mr Enoka 1, Mr Cade 2.
