POLISH VOLUNTEERS STUDENTS STOPPED IN BALTIC STATES. (Received This Day, 10.10 a.m.) STOCKHOLM. December 12. The Polish Minister at Helsinki and all members of the Legation have volunteered for service with the Finnish forces. Several hundred Polish students from Vilna, seeking to go to Finland to fight against Russia, have been turned back at the Lithuanian and Latvian frontier.

The Rome radio states that Berlin has officially denied that Herr Hitler asked M Molotov to negotiate peace with Finland. SOVIET REPLY TO LEAGUE MEDIATION OFFER. TEXT ISSUED INVITATION NOT ACCEPTED. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 1.45 p.m.) RUGBY, December 12. The British delegation at Geneva learns that the Soviet Government has sent a reply to the telegram sent it from Geneva yesterday and that the text of telegram is as follows: — “The Soviet Government thanks you, Mr President, for the kind invitation to lake part in discussions of the Finnish Question. At the same time, the Soviet Government informs you that the Soviet is not in a position to ac- • cept this invitation, for reasons given in the telegram of December 4, from the Commissariat of Foreign Affairs, sent in reply to a communication from the Secretary-General.”
