CENTRAL SCHOOL
COMMITTEE MEETING. WILLIAM GEARY DUX OF SCHOOL The monthly meeting of the committee of the Central School was held last night. Mr J. E. MeV. Calwell presided and there wore also present Messrs C. J. Braggins. A. I. Gibbs. A. V Dixon. ,T. 11. Cole and F. A. Wesney. Apologies for absence were icceived from Messrs W. R. Nicol. A. Newman and G. It. Beecrofl. The headmaster submitted a very satisfactory report showing that the roll number at the Central School was 534. average 509.6, percentage 9:>.4. East School, roll number 81, average 76.6. percentage 95, which was extraordinary for this time of the teat. The final examinations produced very pleasing results. Several rooms showed 100 per cent of passes. Tn Standard 6, 70 out of 71 secured certificates and most of them will proceed to college. The Dux of the school proved to be William Geary, with Jack Russell as runner-up. It was decided to make them both a presentation as was the usual custom. A grant was made to the headmaster of £5 10s to provide a Christmas tree for both schools. It was reported that the children of the Central School primer classes gave a very enjoyable concert last Thursday. There was a display of handwork. About 100 parents were present. The East School also had a pleasant Christmas part?' last Saturday. The headmaster expressed the season's greetings to the committee on behalf of the stall and himself, which the chairman heartily reciprocated. He congratulated the headmaster and staff upon their excellent work as was to be seen as the result of the examinations. The school cleaners were granted two weeks' holiday during the school vacation. Mr A. V. Dixon, as a member of the Parents' Association, expressed I the season's compliments to the committee which were heartily reciprocated. Mr Dixon was requested to convey to the members of the Association congratulations upon the useful and successful work they had carried out for the benefit of the child- ; ren. I The secretary was directed to write I a letter to Mr F. H. Clift, expressing I appreciation of his services, and I wishing him success in his new sphere I of work, he having accepted a posij tion as senior assistant in the SecondI ary Department of the Taumarunui i District High School.
