CHRISTMAS SHOPPING
GOOD BUSINESS REPORTED IN MASTERTON. WELL UP TO LAST YEAR'S HIGH LEVEL. Masterton retailers report good business on the approach of Christmas, well up to last year's high level, which some reported to be the best year experienced for eight or nine years. There appears to be a general belief that Christmas shopping will maintain the high level of recent years, in spite of the war. and other factors. Although some lines of goods are in short supply, as much on account of the war as anything else, the shops are well filled with a wide range of articles and shoppers should have little or no difficulty in securing their wants. It is a good rule to shop early, as better service is possible to those who adopt this procedure, and moreover. they are likely to have the choice of a wider variety of goods than would be the case if shopping were left to the last day of two before the Christmas holidays.
