A ROUGH TRIP

—. —* LINER BUFFETED BY SEA. WOMAN THROWN OUT OF BED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, December 12. A liner which arrived from Sydney recently experienced a rough Tasman crossing. About 4.30 a.m. one day, said a' traveller, the ship rolled heavily and a woman in one cabin was thrown out of her bed on to the floor. Everything on the dressing-table crashed to the floor also, and outside there was a crash of falling crockery and other things. On one occasion, when the seas were at their worst, it was stated, the cabin class dining-tables were set in readiness for a meal, and dishes, glassware and silver crashed to the oor. There was sugar everywhere underfoot from upturned pots. Inquiry from the hospital on board elicited the information that there had been no serious injury. A few people had been shaken by falls, and one man had suffered a few scratches to his face. Stewards estimated the damage to crockery at between £5OO and £6OO. but the master denied that. The chief steward, he said, would report to him all damage done, and he had not heard of any great damage. There had been one incident concerning 20 glass containers, filled with ice in one of the pantries, he said. They had been all ready for placing on the tables, and, when the vessel had rolled, they had all crashed to the floor. Some of the silver had been thrown about, but that would not damage. "There was a bit of a swell,” he admitted.
