WESTERN FRONT

ACTIVITY ON THE BRITISH SECTOR. RAIDING PARTIES REPULSED. (Received This Day, 9.50 a.m.) PARIS. December 11. Military sources report heavy German patrol activity, notably on the section of the line which the British have taken over. Commentators stated that the British soldiers have received their baptism of artillery fire, and are participating in French patrol activity. French advanced posts repulsed raiding Germans with hand grenades, capturing some. The French official evening communique states: “There were patrol encounters at various points of the front.” A German communique issued in Berlin says there was light artillery fire on some parts of the front otherwise it was quiet. Daventry reports that on the Western Front the Germans are reported to be paying special attention to the sector held by British troops. German patrol activity has been particularly heavy in the British sector.
