INTERHOUSE DISPLAY
RECENT MASTERTON GATHERING. DONATION OF £4O TO MAYOR. Every satisfaction with the success of the recent interhouse sports and competition was expressed by members of the Masterton Interhouse Association at a meeting presided over by Mr G. Daubney, chairman of the executive. Among the donations made were £4O to the Mayor for patriotic purposes, £45 to the various girls’ teams towards expenses incurred in providing uniforms, £4 4s to the Masterton Municipal Band. £2 2s to the Masterton Amateur Athletic Club (in recognition of the assistance given by members), and £2 2s to the St John Ambulance. Votes of thanks were also passed to the public for the splendid support accorded the display, and to the many individual helpers. It was decided to send the winning team. Hosiery Mills and the runnersup. Hugo and Shearer’s, to Napier to take part in an interhouse competition to be held there on January 20. It had been proposed, it was stated, to send all the Masterton teams to Napier by special train on January 21. but it was found that some of the competitions took place on the previous evening, and that teams of 13 girls were required instead of 9, as at Masterton. This necessitated the augmenting of the two teams to be sent on January 20 by girls from other teams. The principal activity of the Association. following the Napier- display, it was reported, would be to make arrangements for Masterton teams to take part in a big interhouse display to be given at the Centennial Exhibition. probably on Easter Saturday. Proposals had been discussed with Mr McNicol, Director of Physical Education. during his recent visit to Masterton. It was intended to have interhouse teams competing from all parts of the Wellington and Hawke's Bay districts, and it was anticipated that between 800 and 1000 girls would be present. It was the Masterton Association’s intention to send all its teams to Wellington on that occasion. Every effort was to be made to ensure that the Masterton girls gave a display creditable to themselves, and to the town, and with that end in view the Association would be concentrating its efforts on this big event.
