SENIOR CRICKET
GAMES IN VARIOUS CENTRES. Wellington.— Some tall scoring was done when the fifth series of the Wellington Cricket Association’s senior championship competition matches was continued on Saturday. University led the way by hitting up 471 against Karori on Karori Park, E. M. Hay reaching 116. W. F. Vietmeyer 83, N. H. McMillan 72, and J. A. Ongley 58. Another breezy batting display was given by the. Wellington eleven, who rattled up 301 against Wellington College Old Boys. A feature of the innings was the splendid stand made by R. Morgan for the fifth wicket, which realised la 9 runs, carrying the score from 45 to 204. Here Morgan was bowled when only three short of his century. Airey went on to reach 112. Old Boys scored 52 for one wicket at stumps. Midland found runs difficult to get against good bowling by Wilson and Rice when they faced Kilbirnie, the leading team. Six wickets were down for 93, when Tindill, who had opened, was joined by W. Hepburn, and the pair put on 157 for the seventh wicket, running the score from 93 to 250. Hepburn reached 90, and Tindill went on to notch 106. The total reached 283, and Kilbirnie at stumps had six runs on without loss. Solid batting marked the 271 scored by Institute against Hutt at the Hutt Recreaion Ground. Bezzant and Bilby passed the half-century. Hutt responded with 35 for three wickets. Auckland. —Low scoring in all games was a feature of cricket matches on Saturday. The only century was scored by V. S. Sale, of North Shore, who made 119 against University. Scores were: —North Shore 244. University 43 for one wicket. Parnell 203 v Middlemore 122. Eden 144 v Grafton 46 for none. Y.M.C.A. 143 and one for two v Ponsonby-Balmoral 104. Christchurch.— The fifth round of the Canterbury Cricket Association’s competitions was commenced on Saturday in fine weather. Considerable interest was taken in F. P. O’Brien's form for St Albans against West Christchurch, after two years' county play in England. He shaped well for 26 before he was run out. but was not successful in his bowling. Scores: East Christchurch 231 met Lancaster Park 28 for three wickets. St Albans 151 met West Christchurch 157 for four wickets. Old Collegians 242 met Old Boys. Riccarton 210 met Sydenham 59 for two wickets. Dunedin. — After Saturday’s grade cricket, played in good weather. Carisbrook A and University lead in the Dunedin championship, with 16 points each. Carisbrook B and Grange have 14, Old Boys 12, Kaikorai 10, Dunedin 8. and Albion 6. The leaders played an exciting drawn match. Carisbrook A
scored 268. When the last over started University’s total was 267 for nine wickets. The additional runs required for a win were not scored, and Carisbrook could not capture the final wicket, so that the result left the two teams bracketed at the top of the list. There was an extremely close finish also in the Old Boys and Albion match, which Old Boys won by six runs on the first innings. Grange 212 beat Dunedin 129 and 99 for one wiciket, on the first innings. Carisbrook B 282 beat Kaikorai 172 and 172 for six wickets, on the first innings.
