WAIRARAPA COLLEGE

THIS YEAR’S MAGAZINE. As in large part an itemised record of the affairs and interests of a school which takes already a high place among establishments of its kind and is developing with fine promise, the “Wairarapa College Magazine.” now appearing in its second annual number. has its full measure of value for all who are in any way associated with the school, or with the two formerschools whose identity was merged in that of Wairarapa College. The magazine appears to cover its wide field remarkably well in all details. It deals adequately with the existing organisation of the college, from principal and staff, by way of prefects and representative teams down to pupils of the humblest grade. Lively form notes are an attractive and entertaining feature. Scholastic, sporting and social activities of pupils and former pupils, the work of the Parents' Association and various events and developments during the year all receive due attention. There are many personal notes relating to past pupils, members of the staff and others. Illustrations include portrait groups of prefects and teams, a picture of the college and its grounds taken from the air. and others'of the carnival procession of March last, and of the Engineering Department. While it is concerned mainly with the unfolding promise of youth and breathes in many pages the joy of life, the magazine strikes a graver note in telling of young lives cut short by accident or otherwise'. It records that two former pupils—Squadron-Leader Lennox Lamb and Pilot-Officer Bryan Graham—died on active service with the Royal Air Force. A master and a number of former pupils are listed as having entered the Special Force for military service at home or overseas.
