Plenty of Hurdlers. Judging by the numbers of nominations received by the Auckland Racing Club for the four hurdle races on it's programme for the Cup meeting there is no dearth of hurdlers in the North Island. For the mile and three-quar-ter race on the fourth day no fewer than 38 horses have been nominated.
Ajax to be Kept in Work. As he is inclined to get gross with idleness it is intended to keep Ajax in work, and he will be given an occasional race during the summer meetings. After a strenuous campaign in the spring it is usual to give good horses a let-up before a preparation for the big autumn meetings in Australia.
Miltiades. Miltiades, winner of the Gillies Handicap at Oamaru, is a four-year-old chestnut gelding by Iliad from the Ab-surd-Mascot mare Black Cat and is thus a half-brother to Silk Paper and a full-brother to Red Cat. Miltiades only returned from Australia about three months ago. While racing in and around Sydney Miltiades won four races, one up to five and a-half furlongs, and earned the reputation of being one of the fastest two-year-olds working at Randwick. He races in the ownership of Mr R. C. B. Greenslade. i FIXTURES. December 9—Hororata. December 9, 11 —Woodville. December 16—Waipa. December 2.3, 26, 27— Manawatu December 26 —Waipukurau.
