"RUSSIA MUST WIN"
UNLESS FINLAND RECEIVES MORE THAN SYMPATHY Declaration by Foreign Office Spokesman in Helsinki APPEAL TO THE WORLD FOR MILITARY AID DEMONSTRATIONS IN EUROPEAN COUNTRIES (By Telegraph.—Press Association.—Copyright.) LONDON, December 8. Finland has issued several direct appeals to the world for fcr military aid. Popular demonstrations for Finland occttned in Scandinavia, Brussels, Budapest and Madrid, where the Finnish Legation is crowded with volunteers. Last night’s Finnish army communique stated: 'The Russians’ Petsamo attack reveals a wider strategy including the Swedish iron ore fields and the Norwegian ice-free port of Narvik. It seems impossible that these Scandinavian States can remain passive spectators to the Finnish drama.” The Foreign Office spokesman in Helsinki declared: “Russia must win unless Finland receives more than sympathy. Arms and men must be given quickly. Defeat of Finland would mean far more to England and France than the defeat of Poland. “Russia may be Germany’s ally, but what chance has Germany if she wins in the West when Russia waits to devoui the winner after helping to crush the loser?”
