FLAG DAY
COLLECTION IN MASTERTON SATISFACTORY RESPONSE. ORGANISERS THANKED BY MAYOR. The appeal made to the Masterton public yesterday, for funds to be devoted to some special provision for the men in camp, at Trentham and out stations, at Christinas time, met with a generous response. The sum of £163, with some small returns to come, was received. A large and energetic committee of ladies were responsible for a thorough canvass of the town, and from an early hour passers-by were being asked to buy a flag. The appeal was well organised anc: the response was considered very gratifying by the treasurer, Mr G. T. O’Hara Smith. The Mayor, Mr T. Jordan, wishes to thank all who gave so generously to such a worthy object, and particularly the ladies’ committee organised by Mrs J. Caselberg. He also wished to thank Misses J. Hornabrook and P. Gill for organising the Queen Street collection. The assistance given by the Midland Hotel was also appreciated. LOWER VALLEY APPEALS. The amount subscribed in Greytown in connection with Flag Day amounted to approximately £2O. The returns for the Featherston district are not yet complete, but it is expected that the figure will be a satisfactory one.
