ENEMY PLANES ON BRITISH COAST DRIVEN OFF BY R.A.F. FIGHTERS. ANOTHER ATTEMPT ON FIRTH OF FORTH. The following Daventry reports have been rebroadcast by the New Zealand National stations: — Ten enemy planes approached the British coast last night, and were driven off by R.A.F. fighter machines. Two were seen off the North-east coast and were chased out to sea. A little later eight enemy planes were seen off the Scottish coast, near the Firth of Forth and were driven off. A sharp engagement took place, it is believed with some success, as smoke was seen. The all clear signal was sounded half an hour after the alarm was given.
The secret meeting of the House of Commons is fixed for Wednesday next. It was announced in England yesterday that British exports had now reached pre-war level. A wool agreement has been arranged between Britain and South Africa, the effect of which will protect growers from falling prices. Three men have been executed in Germany for high treason, in supplying information to the enemy. Two out of three people in England have access to air raid shelters. Three out of four can reach shelter in seven minutes.
Messages from Turkey indicate that there has been an unfavourable reaction in that country to the Nazi Press attempts to stir up trouble between Turkey and Russia.
