Grant to College.
A grant to cover half the cost of equipping with seating accommodation the Assembly Hall of the Wairarapa College has been approved by the Minister of Education, according to advice received by the member for Masterion. Mr Robertson. Flag Day in Masterton. Flag Day is being observed in Masterton today and success is attending the efforts of those who are engaged in rasing funds to provide comforts for the soldiers in camp. The residents in various streets in Masterton were waited upon by patriotic workers and a considerable sum should be available for the purpose for which the fund was established. Young Historians. About half the boys and girls of the Sutton Road School at Askern in Yorkshire have been helping to produce a local history book. A pupil stated that it had been great fun gathing the information and the work they have done has given them a new interest in their own village. The attractive handbook they have compiled has been typed for them but the material has been gathered by the scholars themselves. Waikato Lambs. With the killing season just commenced, more and more Waikato lambs are being put through the works, in preparation for early . shipments to Britain. Favourable weather has been experienced for the growth ot the iambs and the general opinion is that their quality compares more than favotirabiv with (hat ol previous years. Waikato sheep-farmers hope to have a large proportion of their lambs ready to lie sem away in the early shipments. Methodist Home Children. While homes have been found lotmore than half of the boys and girls in the Masterion Methodist Children’s Home, there still remain about sixteen children whom the Management Committee are desirous of placing in homes during the Christmas season, and they would appreciate offers by residents of Masterton and the district to take the children for a period in order to give the latter a change of environment. The secretary-manager. Mr W. R Nicol, whose telephone number is 2070. would be pleased if residents who would be willing to provide a homo for the children at the festive season would got in touch with him.
The Townswomen's Guild will hold a garden party at 96 Colombo Road, Masterton, on Saturday, commencing at 2 p.m.
