SOLWAY COLLEGE

DRILL AND DANCING ANNUAL DEMONSTRATION. EXCELLENT DISPLAY OF WORK. Last night the annual demonstration of drill and dancing was held at Solway College. In spite of the unpromising weather throughout the day. there was a large attendance of visitors. The programme opened with a mannequin parade, displaying the clothes made by Miss Latham's dressmaking pupils during the year. All styles were represented from the evening frock of the debutante to the play suit of the youthful athlete. This was followed by items by the dancing classes, the colourful costumes combining with the graceful movements of the dancers to provide a most delightful entertainment. During the interval the visitors inspected the display of art needlework. crafts and dressmaking in the studio. The crafts work, for which Mrs; Bowden was responsible, provided an outstanding display of art. needlework (tapestry, Richelieu and Norwegian embroidery) leatherwork,, marquetry, cretonne patterning and drawing were other crafts. The second portion of the programme was aevoted t 6 drill and gymnastic displays by the various forms. The high standard attained by the performers was evidence of the excellent training received under the supervision of the games mistress. Miss Joan Williamson.
